The Best (and Worst) Style Tips to Improve Your Look

It’s officially spooky season, and the weather is getting colder. As the temperature drops, you may need a style refresher to help you get started. Use this guide for some great tips to help you update your wardrobe and improve your style.

Do: Pay attention to the details

The details of your outfit can make a big difference. For special occasions like weddings, men typically prioritize finding the perfect suit, which is understandable. However, other details like your tie and cufflinks are also important! These accessories, although somewhat minor, can either elevate or detract from your overall look. So invest in a quality tie set—you won’t regret it.

Another aspect of your outfit that you shouldn’t overlook is wrinkling. Take the time to iron your shirts or use a steamer if necessary because an unwrinkled outfit can easily make you seem more put together.

Don’t: Overdo accessories

Paying attention to detail is great, and adding tasteful accessories can do a lot for your overall look. That said, this can be a bad style tip if you do it incorrectly. You don’t want to overwhelm your outfit with too many unnecessary pieces, so add things sparingly at first. Then, add more if you feel the outfit needs it. That way, you aren’t overloading an outfit that already speaks for itself.

Do: Style your hair correctly

Have you ever been on your way to a special occasion and felt like your look was lacking? It may have been your hair or lack thereof. Some hairdos fit certain outfits better than others and choosing the wrong one can affect your entire look.

Try out different hairstyles when you can to give yourself a better understanding of what looks suit you best. If you don’t have a head full of hair and feel like your choices are limited, don’t worry—you have options.

You can either embrace things and go bald. Or you can try to regrow your hair in areas where it’s thin. If you choose the regrowth route, a hair growth oil like Castor oil may help you achieve your desired look. You may need a stronger solution like topical Minoxidil if your hair loss is hereditary.

Don’t: Wait until the last minute

Don’t try a new hairstyle for an event only 30 minutes before you have to leave. Experiment before your outing. That way, you aren’t overwhelmed if things don’t look the way you envisioned. Additionally, don’t overprocess your hair to achieve a specific look. Excessive dying, styling, and cutting can affect your hair negatively in the long run.

Do: Craft original outfits

There’s nothing wrong with finding inspiration from other people. However, you don’t want to try and emulate every outfit a specific person or group wears. Why? Well, there are a few reasons. One is that everyone has different body shapes and what looks nice on one person may not necessarily flatter another—so dress for your body shape.

Nothing looks better than something authentically you. No other style will fit you better than the one that you feel confident wearing. It’s too hard styling yourself after someone item for item, so save yourself the hassle.

Instead, have some fun with your style. Play around with things like patterned socks and fancy hats to craft a look that only you can wear.

Don’t: Copy a celebrity down to a T

Not every style fits your aesthetic. You may try to recreate a look that a celebrity has worn because it’s popular, only to realize that the aesthetic doesn’t actually reflect you. Then, you find yourself uncomfortable in your clothing.

Don’t do that. Take aspects of their style that you like and make them your own. That way, you’re comfortable and stylish in your new look.

Style is what you make it, but it never hurts to have a little guidance to help you along the way! Hopefully, these tips will help you on your journey to improving your look.
